Thanks for the kind words.  I only hoped to do as well as the original.  Timbotide.  I made holders for the jaws out of some angle and glued about 1/4" rubber gasket material to the face. I use another vise to saw and file metal so I can keep it clean.  I also put 1/2" of rubber on the beam that the outer jaws travel in and out on to prevent stock damage if it falls from the jaws.  Don't ask how I knew to do that!

Well, it's done. Lots of boo boos along the way.  I shot it and got a great final group at 50 yards. (About an inch! ) Many lessons learned for the next build which is already started. That will be a smooth rifle in the style of Jacob Altland whose shop was about three miles from my home. Thanks to all for your input.

I appreciate the kind comments from all of you so far.  I hoped to hear from some of the members that are the "Old Timers" and frequent flyers on the site.  I look to you for much helpful information that just makes me a better gun stocker. If you feel like it, please chime in.
