Waterlox

A friend of mine gave me some Waterlox. Thinking of using it on a rifle that I am close to having finished. Would like comments good and bad for using Waterlox on a longrifle.

Used some 100 years ago, the original "gym floor finish" and it was great for the application (a modified wooden waterski). High Gloss was the only option back then as I recall.

They don't package it like they used to, so I'll just sit here and listen.

I use it for woodworking.  I think it would work fine on a rifle.

One nice thing is a year or two later, you can give it another coat and it will stick to itself.

I have been using it for a sealer for quite some time .... I switch to a spar varnish after about 3 coats of water lox

I used to buy it in five gal buckets. I had 17,000 sq. ft of gym floors to maintain in another life. Never considered using it on a gunstock.

I use it. I like it. It can go bad, though. If it has jelly-like globs in it, it's no good.

Thanks, for you that have used it on gun stocks, do you rub down between coats I.e. Scotchbrite/steelwool?
I dislike a glossy finish.

 I agree with nordnecker, it is a beautiful finish on furniture; waterproof and hard wearing. It does have a limited life span once opened and will start jellying.

I use it on most all of my furniture projects and rub it down as you described.

I’ve used it on several gunstocks.  Never had any problems.  The linseed oil in it ages nice and the dryers work great.  You’ll get a very similar look as an old stock that had BLO applied.

I've used it on gunstocks.  I can't remember how many, but I don't recall any problems.
