Walter Cain Trigger Source?
« on: December 15, 2018, 06:25:29 AM »
I am looking for a double set Hawken trigger.  I am told the best were made by Walter Cain.

Are they still available?

If so, from where?

Thanks!

Martin

Unfortunately, Walter Cain passed away a few years back. You might try Tip Curtis (615-654-4445). I remember seeing one of Mr. Cains single lever, double set triggers in one of his display cases on my last visit to Friendship, but I can't say if he had any Hawken Triggers. Your best bet is probably going to be to advertise your need in the "Items For Sale/Wanted" section of the ALR site (just remember to state how much you are willing to pay). His finely crafted triggers and assembled locks command high prices these days, so guys that have them won't let them go cheap.

Earlier this year, someone posted a Large Siler lock assembled by Walter Cain for sale here on ALR. This was one of the rare times I scored something I really wanted before it got scarfed up 8 minutes after it was posted! I also have two sets of Mr. Cain's single lever, double set triggers: one in a rifle (kit) I bought from Homer Dangler just after he sold his kit business to Jim Klien, and another set aside for a future build.   If you find the set you're looking for, bite the bullet and buy it. Good luck in your search!

I make them but have none made at the present time. They are like the SMR triggers,
no castings or other low level parts.IF these foundries cut us off from critical lock parts
they will do away with the cast set triggers as well.
Walter Cain made a fine trigger but they are hard to find and expensive as well.
I used to send his cards to anyone wanting a trigger or Siler lock made by him.

Bob's Hawken triggers are first class.  Also, there is a ALR member with a Hawken parts set in the for sale section now that has a set of triggers like you are looking for listed.  You might talk him into selling them to you.

Bob, I sent you a PM.

Rsells, yes, I saw that.  I am not sure I need to rest of the parts, though.

You might have a better chance of finding a set of Ron Long's Hawken triggers which are every bit as good as the Walter Cain triggers.  You must get real Ron Long triggers, i.e. stamped "Longs Locks Denver" not the ones made by Davis.

Walter Cain made my Dad a pretty nice rifle, too:
