Gillespie Bear Pistol Finished
« on: January 26, 2019, 09:31:24 PM »
Hello everyone.  I just finished my version of a Gillespie "bear pistol".  The original is featured in Dennis Glazener's book.  It has a 15 inch swamped barrel that is .54 caliber.  Someone on here made the triggers but I cant remember who.  It balances real well and will probably be fun to shoot.  My engraving leave a lot to be desired.

Say, any of you boys smithies? Or, if not smithies per se, were you otherwise trained in the metallurgic arts before straitened circumstances forced you into a life of aimless wanderin'?

Nicely done!  One of these pistols is on my to-do list as well.  I also want to build a cane-handled pistol that was also pictured in Dennis' book.  I just need a few more hours in each day!

That came out seriously nice!

Enjoy; looks like it'll be hoot to shoot.

That is one serious looking handful of pistol!  I like it.  Now you have to locate an accommodating bear.....  Just saying.  God Bless,   Marc

What a wonderful pistol!  A body would be proud to be seen with it.  Fit and finish are remarkable.

One question - the markings on the barrel?  I can state that I have seen random "pecking" marks, but they were on a tree and done by a woodpecker. Not poking fun at you - I am sure that they are there for a reason.  Pretty nifty, really.

Go get them bars!  You got the perfect tool for the job!

Neat pistol, Cory Joe. I’d hate to be a bear in your neighborhood.
