Cap Horns?

Guys I can’t ‘member where I read it, be it one of my lil books, or on the interwebs, but SOMEWHERES, and I believe it stated they were period, I saw what was called a “cap horn”. It took the form of a tiny powder horn, really just the tip of the beeve’s projection, who’s end was bored out so that it could trickle out what else, percussion caps!!  :D

Well I thought to myself “ain’t that the damdist thing” and went on with my life. But after that day I can scarcely recall ever hearing about cap horns again.

Guys anyone know what I’m talking about???  ???

Made one years ago, may still be in the catch all box. Just a piece of horn plugged with walnut. Drops one cap at a time. Don't know if it's HC or not.

Yes. Cap horns are real. Check Madison Grants book, Powder Horns and their Architecture. He shows some in there.

YES!!! That must’ve been where I read it, I have that book! What an incredible find, glad to have refound the source. I’d LOVE to make a cap horn someday, maybe when Jim Kibler finally releases his percussion rifle line! :)

I made a number of cap horns. Used them when I shot percussion. Sold my old Tryon, bag, and horn with all the accoutrements along with it. My first caphorn was with that set. Still going strong. They do not need to be very large. Only need to hold a tin.

Very familiar with the cap horn.  When I bought Earl Cureton's horn business, that was one of the items he/I made.
As was said, it is a small horn, maybe the size of a primer horn or even smaller.  I have no idea of the number, but it is safe to say I made and sold dozens and dozens of them.  Never kept track of how many, but it was a bunch.  Just like other sizes and styles of the Cureton line.  Thousands, literally.
