I have an ignorant answer for you... I don't know.  The best thing to do is test it.  Do you have any wood left over from construction?  If so, put a couple coats of the original finish on it, and then try the Permalyn.  If you don't have any original scraps, look under the barrel of the gun.  Is it oiled with the original finish?  If so, test the Permalyn there, where it will not normally be seen.  And for even more ignorance, I have no idea what tip Curtis finish is.

I am sure others here will chime in and give better direction.  Good luck with it, Bowkill.

Reason i was asking was because i am out of Peramalyn and would need to order some to test.

Maybe give your finish more time and some UV.

If you got a coat on over an uncured coat, then it's going to be quite a while.

How "not hard enough" is your current finish?

I don't know about the actual composition of either, but given that the one is termed "Original Oil Finish" and permalyn is known to be a urethane, I would be somewhat leery.  Oil finishes that are truly oil possess the ability to flex somewhat; urethane, on the other hand, is a more brittle finish.  I know that viewing older urethane finishes under a microscope will reveal an entire network of cracks, which may be exacerbated over a finish that is flexible in varying weather conditions.
