I saw this rifle on Facebook and I'd love to build it.  Sadly, there isn't much information available that I've been able to find on Mauger rifles.  Does anyone have any that they'd be willing to share?  Additionally, if there's none available, how (or can I), use this picture to get dimensions for it?  Thanks for your help.

There is one of Mauger's guns and a write up in the book " An intimate Look at The American Longrifle it's art and evolution". It's a KRA publication.

Say, any of you boys smithies? Or, if not smithies per se, were you otherwise trained in the metallurgic arts before straitened circumstances forced you into a life of aimless wanderin'?

You can use a good photo shop program (I use Gimp, its free) to print out a full size template enlarge the full size photo until the LOP is what you want. Everything else will be in proportion. Print out the butt to lock panels in one photo the either estimate the forearm or print it out in sections. I used to tape two sheets of paper end to end and print out on my old printer. The new printer won't allow me to do that so the last one I did this on I had Stapples print it out for me, cost me a couple of dollars. Be sure to tell them you want it to print out exact size else the will shrink it.

This is very easy to do but hard to verbalize. You need to cut the the photo to the exact LOP, enlarge it to the LOP you want, write down the height of that photo then use that height on the full length photo and keep the same ratio and enlarge the full photo to the height you wrote down. If you did it right the LOP on the full photo should now match what you wanted and everything else is in proper proportion to it.

The Dave Hanson Book "An intimate look at The American Longrifle" is by far my favorite of many in my collection. Lots of great rifles with detailed building perspective & color photos to boot.. Also has a very nice Mauger in it!

One easy way to enlarge pictures for patterns. If you can scan your pictures into your computer then hook up to a power point projector. Then I project the picture on to paper taped to the wall. Check all critical measurements then trace your picture. To enlarge back the projector away. Your can tweak for. distortion a bit by changing the angle of the projector to the wall. You will always need to tweek the patterns some to make things work. It really nice to know some real dimensions of the gun your copying. Especially length of pull and butplate height. BJH

I don't want to discourage you, but the contours of the  buttstock on a Mauger will be difficult to match with just a blow up of the profile  Not sure what other views are needed to help you get it right.
Allen Martin made me a copy of mine a few years ago and did a great job  At that time Reaves Goehring made us copies of the  buttplate and trigger guard.
