Im considering the RE Davis kit 20 ga fusel de chase. The barrel is 48 in. Anyone have experience with this barrel length. All the  muzzeloaders ive owned have been 42. I hope the 4o in would be easy to get use to pluss bd a help in patterning.

Daryl, I have a 10 bore fowler with a 48" barrel and I do not find it to be unwieldy or slow on the swing. It weighs a bit less than 8 pounds and carries nicely. And does it pattern! Go for it.

You won't notice the difference in the way the gun handles. You'll probably get a pretty good shot pattern as well. I built one of those years ago.
Mine weighed 8 3/4 lbs.  The kit has a ton of extra wood on it, lots to take off to make it look right.

Say, any of you boys smithies? Or, if not smithies per se, were you otherwise trained in the metallurgic arts before straitened circumstances forced you into a life of aimless wanderin'?

The longer the tube, the less chance of stopping the swing on a flying shot.

Seems the longer tube promotes following through - that is, if you are one to look or sight down the barrel.

If you only look at the bird, you will follow through properly, so any bl. length will work.

Longer barrels seem to shoot round ball better than shorter ones.
