.36 Cal---.350 Hornady Swaged Vs. 000 Hornady Buckshot .350

We were talking about 36 cals last weekend and balls.  Hornandy makes .350 swaged and sold by 100 and they make 000 Buckshot (.350) swaged and sold by 5 lb. box.

One guy said the quality (roundness) was superior in the 100 quantity lots versus the 5 lb. lots.  His feeling was practice with buckshot (cheaper) and use the 100 quanity for serious work.

I am going to weigh and measure some in the near future, just wondering if anyone has any comments on any differences between the 2.

Let us know what you find.  It seems to be a good idea.  Certainly much cheaper.

I saw a thread on another forum where Hornady 000 was said to work very well in a ML pistol (Pedersoli LePage), although the 000 lead was said to be a little harder than 350 RB.    SCL

I called Hornady a while back to ask what the difference is.  They are both swaged so roundness and quality are identical.  The only difference is the buck-shot is harder as it contains (antimity) I spelled it wrong but there you go.

You made me curious as well. I have a gun that uses 00 Hornady Buckshot .330. I weighed 10 of them and the furthest they were off in weight was .1 of a grain. The average weight of this 00 buckshot is 54 gr.Which I think is pretty close. In roundness, they had about a .003 runout. I do have some cast balls here, that are supposed to be pure lead. they weigh an average for 10 at 55.9 gr. but they varied .1 gr. either way and the runout was greater at close .006. I realize this is for a 33cal. and not your 36 cal. but I wanted to share the difference between the Buckshot and the cast balls. I think for the target you are using these on which is either squirrel or paper mostly, I would probably use the Buckshot as being more consistant. JMO

Check Track of the Wolf.  They advertise pure lead buckshot.  Grafs, Midway and other advetise hardened shot.  I bought mine for my 25 out of TOW for that reason.  As to how they make it, the ML ball are swaged.  They may "hob" buckshot to get it round, or use modern drop shot methods.  Depends on your uses and needs.  At squirrel ranges either would work, at a target match you may prefer the swaged.  There may be no difference for all I know.
