Two ML Matches in Tennessee
« on: March 22, 2019, 02:05:28 AM »
This weekend at Pall Mall is the Alvin York over the log match and a short hour and a half distance at Oak Ridge is the Creedmore 150 long range ML match. I guess you could potentially participate in both. At present I'm at Pall Mall where the conditions are perfect.

Mr. Swigart won with the shortest string in Pall Mall. 158 registered shooters enjoyed great weather. This was only my 3rd chunk match....needless to say the hamburger I won looks delicious.

Heard Rick Weber down at Oak Ridge had a wonderful shoot as well. I hear the muzzleloaders overcame the cartridge guys...503 to 502!

The Oak Ridge shoot was great.  Weather was perfect.

The top 4 ML shooters did beat the top 4 cartridge shooters by one point.

Rick Weber runs a great match and we had a good time.

Just got back to Iowa a few hours ago.

Pictures from Oak Ridge, TN

I am the guy on the far right, with the hat, holding the rifle.

Coarse of fire was 300 and 600 yards on Friday.  On Saturday back to back shooting 2 thousand yard matches, first one with rifle support, second relay no rifle support other than your body.  I was like most of the people there, I have never shot 1,000 yards without a rifle support and was more then a little worried about it.  I was able to shoot a X unsupported.  Thank goodness I was wobbling in the right direction when the rifle went off.

Looks like a good turnout at both events. It almost looks like a couple of faces in that last photo that I seen in Phoenix a few weeks ago at the AZWINS shoot and the Creedmore match.

Here is a link to read more about what type of rifles are used in long range ML shooting.

http://www.researchpress.co.uk/index.php/firearms/target-rifles

You can also see some pictures of original rifles on that web site.

Most people were using a replica.  Pedersoli makes a Gibbs style rifle that is very popular.  Lee Shaver also has made several copies of an American rifle that people were using.

I was using an original Rigby, as was Rick Weber.   There was at least two other original rifle being used at the match.

Lee Shaver and Ray Hopkins are both in the picture and both were at AZ shoot.

The Oak Ridge match is the largest LRML match in the USA.

Zeke Stout one of the judges of the TV show Master of Arms was supposed to come and compete with us.  Lee Shaver the winner of the blunderbuss show has become friends with him and he was coming with Lee.  Zeke had some chest pains last week that kept him from coming.
