I just finished building a rifle in the style of Elisha Bull, but while researching the rifle I became confused as to just which Elisha Bull was the gunmaker. It seems that every generation in the Bull family had 10 or 12 kids and they named all of them after existing family members. This resulted in cousins, uncles, etc, all with the same name. I see several Elisha names in the pedigree.
Am I wrong in thinking Elisha Bull Sr. (1790-1873) the brother of John Valentine Bull (1777-1840) was the gunmaker who served in the war of 1812 (listed as a gunsmith in Capt. Vances GO TN Militia) and was the maker of the double grease hole rifle?
How about the Elisha Bull rifle pictured on page 94 of Whisker's, Gunsmiths of TN?
How about Pistol #2 on page 51 of Pierce's, Kentucky Rifles of The Great Smoky Mountains?
Were these guns all made by the same maker? And, do I have the right Elisha Bull?
