Hand Forged Camp Axe

Fooling around in the shop. Just finished this little camp axe.
Forged from 4140 steel, and fitted with an Osage haft.

Looks good. What are dimensions? I have a real nice little bag axe a friend made and he put a real pretty osage handle in it. I tend to push tools a little beyond their intended purpose. I am on my third handle in it and it is hickory this time.
I been wanting to fix up some more hatchets. Is it welded or drifted? Can we see top profile?

Thanks David. I'll post pics of the top and bottom tomorrow plus add the dimensions. I used a teardrop shaped drift to punch the eye.

I like this little axe. Just curious if you would share your source for 4140. Also what were your starting dimensions on your stock material.

I started with a billet of 4140 measuring 1.5" W x 3/4". My source for 4140 is McMaster-Carr.com. They are located in Robbinsville, NJ. Great company with fast shipping and excellent customer services. I will follow up with the overall dimensions of the axe, and some other pictures of the top and bottom. Thanks for the compliments and interest. I have had several orders for this style axe. It's just a nice useable tool.

Okay dimensions are as follows: The head measures 5.5", the blade is 2.5", and the handle is 12.0". Pics of my drifts as requested.

Yes, the marks in the bottom of the handle are in fact my makers marks. They are also stamped in the bottom of the head on the underside of the pole. Thanks guys..
