Antique flint musket unknown

Hi all, here is an old relic/ flintmusket a cohort of mine  repaired for a friend of his. Was greasy black goop all over it when received.Owner wanted it stock repaired and made presentable to hang over fireplace.
 When Tom got it, it looked like it needed to be IN the fireplace.
No markings, filework marks on all furniture,the lock  is a brute. Almost need to use a cheater pipe to cock it. Check out the springs.
 Any thoughts as to how this ol feller came to be appreciated.

barrel -36"
 didn't get LOP
caliber-aprox .52 smooth and very rusty,cleaned out as best feasible
weight 8 lbs
lock length 6 3/4'x1 1/4 w
weight 1 1/4 lbs

Ok I’ll go first. I think it’s a mid 1900s gun. Odd cock, frizzen spring stronger than some mainsprings, generally looks like something cobbled together to look like s musket from available parts.

I thought pretty much same thing,Rich. I wonder where that lock came from? Would like to avoid bumping into such a thing in a dark alley.hahahThanks. Dave

Looks like it was "purpose-built" to be a wall hanger.

Might have been made for the African trade market.  Some of those countries only allow the citizens to have muzzle loaders.  Other's I've seen are just as rough. Agree it's probably 20th century.

I vote for Belgian-made musket for the African trade - probably late 19th century.
