Gizmology 201: a tool for grooves
« on: August 30, 2019, 12:35:35 AM »
Here’s a completely unnecessary but highly functional tool I dreamed up last night at 3AM. Yes, there is plenty wrong with me.

It’s a depth-adjustable mini rip saw. It cuts devilishly straight and would work for incised lower buttstock borders. I am currently using it to set the depth of my huge patchbox inlet for my current build, a Fainot-inspired piece. A series of lines cut lengthwise and a few crosshatches should make leveling the background quite efficient. Those cuts took 4 minutes.

Again, unnecessary but it works.

I will probably upgrade it with a threaded plate versus nuts for setting the depth.

That’s a handy looking little saw. What type blade is that?

1084 spring stock with hand filed teeth.  It’s pretty easy to file rip saw teeth.

Hmmm, this give me an idea for the destryed old back saw that I couldn't let go to the trash hoping I could find a use for it. Thanks for sharing this awesome little tool.

Also, am glad I am no the only one who ends up at all hours needing to go work on whatever the inspiration is.

Acer......you crack me up....... :)

Looks like a piece of an old band saw or hack saw blade would do nicely.  I'm pretty sure I am too lazy to hand file teeth... :o

I did a couple with a piece of saws all blade with the set ground off. Worked pretty good.
