This gun came through my shop a couple days ago. I built it about 2 1/2 years ago. It's a copy of the "sister" gun to the "Faber" rifle. It was pictured in a 1985 Muzzle Blasts magazine. It has a 16 gauge 44" Colerain barrel, Chambers VA. lock with a brass lock plate. Locally cast trigger guard and a sheet brass buttplate. Extremely plain maple stock It has killed several turkeys.

figured you were going to ask that.... Some annalyn dyes. I got from somewhere.. can't remember where. A bright canary yellow base followed by a golden brown then a reddish brown. I believe this gun was darker when new. On really hard pieces of wood like this it doesn't appear to be absolutely color fast, I have had other guns with very hard wood go lighter like this one. At least it's not a bad color. I'll have to see if I have "as new" pics of it.

Here's an "as new". The pictures above were taken in full sun which will tend to wash color out and make things look light. This pic was taken in shade and the tones are darker. I do think it has lightened up a bit though.

Mike---That is an outstanding piece. As mentioned above, the shell carving around the tang really catches the eye.

How prevalent were brass lockplates? Is there any advantage to having a brass plate other than a great appearance?

Quite rare I believe. A customer request. Advantage? It doesn't rust....and it's cool.

Dave, that’s a fine looking turkey gun for sure, and it looks quite capable on the ring necks! Did you have the barrel jug choked? I’m considering having this 16 bore I’m currently building choked, but haven’t decided yet. I’ll probably shoot it some, and then decide.

That's a beauty. I like it better now than when it was new and darker. Funny, 'cause I usually like em kinda dark. I've got some birdseye maple that would look great in that color, done in a fowler! I like a more rounded butt plate for my rock hark burly shoulder though. Hahhaha
