Traffic to Dixon's on Friday
« on: July 21, 2009, 12:38:23 AM »
Just a quick FYI for anyone traveling to Dixon's this weekend from the north. See below, it says only 20 minutes but I wouldn't believe them.      ;D

From our local news station:
10:47 AM EDT, July 20, 2009

Expect some traffic delays Monday along the Northeast Extention of the Pennsylvania Turnpike in Carbon and Lehigh counties.

The turnpike commission said traffic will be stopped once a day at random times Monday through Friday from now until the middle of September.

Northbound traffic will be stopped south of the Lehigh Tunnel at mile post 70.1. Southbound traffic will be stopped north of the Mahoning Valley Interchange ( exit 74). Drivers getting onto the turnpike from Route 209 will be stopped at the toll plaza.

Traffic will be stopped so crews can remove a rock slope next to the Lehigh River Bridge.

The turnpike commission said traffic will not be held up longer than 20 minutes each time.

I heard last night on the news this is only supposed to be Monday-Thursday.  The news is NEVER right!  WFMZ channel 69 News.

PA Turnpike - Stoppages for Blasting
The Pennsylvania Turnpike reports that motorists traveling on PA I-476 will be stopped a maximum of 20-minutes Monday, July 20 through Thursday, July 23 between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
State Police will stop northbound traffic south of the Lehigh Tunnel (milepost A70.1) southbound traffic north of the Mahoning Valley (Exit #74) Interchange and motorists entering I-476 at the Interchange from Route 209 will be stopped at the toll plaza.  The stoppages will allow the safe demolition of rock slope adjacent to the Lehigh River Bridge.
Motorists should stay alert for the stoppage to be conducted once-a-day, Monday through Thursdays at random times between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. until mid-September.

The work is weather sensitive and may be delayed or rescheduled.

Motorists are urged to stay alert for slow moving traffic and use extra caution when approaching and entering construction zones and obey posted speed limits. Speed limits will be enforced and fines doubled.
