I'm not sure if anyone has mentioned it, but one key is to not heat the joint directly.   Heat from the bottom of the barrel so as to not burn up the flux.

Yes, mass considerations and heat control are vital to all welding/brazing/soldering applications. If you burn the flux, stop- clean it up, and start over.


JB Weld is the duct tape of epoxies (same color too-but for the quick set).  It's best used for small fixes where full disassembly and proper repair can be put off for a bit, never as a fabrication method.

I have used JB Weld in the past not as good as soldering.

JB Weld also makes a 1/2 decent bedding material.

I had a kit built by a friend and he tried jb weld... my front lug and my front sight both popped off when shooting it for the first time. Had to take it to a smith and had him do it right.

There are a lot of guns repaired with JB Weld, when the only goal is to get the gun out of the gun show door.
