I don’t see sign of a patent breech from this angle...but I think it likely goes through the breechplug threads. My dear departed Daddy would say, “two fools met...one for building it, the other for buying it”.

Some people’s children shouldn’t be allowed to use tools...

Our oldest son,Robert Mark Roller is a retired cop and more than once he has asked
certain knuckleheads what it was like to be from the shallow end of the gene pool.
No reply was ever given so his question is still viable.

Taylor,

You remind me of the chap asked to speak at an old reprobate's funeral, as he could Always think of something nice to say.
He stood a long time saying nothing, then said, "He had really nice teeth!  and sat down.

Yes sir, you remind me of that man.

Best,
R.

A fellow posted pics of a new "Hawken" he picked up. It's built with a large Siler lock.. notice anything odd about that single lock bolt???

A marvelous example of not planning and not figuring out which part goes where.

Richard:  I met Don Getz in person for the first time in '07 at Dixon's Gunmaker's Fair.  We spent a long time talking.  One of the things he left me with was when you are examining a rifle that someone has presented you for critique, and you don't have the heart to tell the truth, say, ""Nice piece of wood!"  Or this:  "You couldn't have done a better job!"...with a smile, of course.  He was a great guy, and I miss his wit.

A close up to better show the relationship between the drum hole and the cross nail hole.

Has anyone removed the cross bolt and the plug to see if the plug is even threaded??
That bolt maybe a support for the plug.

Black powder is forgiving but not this much. Think this rifle was made as a wall hanger. The workmanship indicates this.

Did anyone notice that it looks like a screw slot on the lock plate side of the barrel? He may have drilled and tapped holes on both sides of the barrel. One for a bolt to hold the side washer and one on the other side to hold the lock plate.

Not a good setup for sure, but it's really not much different than CVA's drum that went through the breech plug threads.
