Epoxy question

Will epoxy soften with heat before wood will burn? Want to remove a nose cap. Thanks.

You should be able to sufficiently heat a nose cap with a heat gun to pull it off of the stock.  A propane torch would be quicker, but you have to be more careful to not let it scorch the wood.

No problem. Shouldn’t take that much heat. I’ve removed epoxied pieces with boiling water.

Seems to me, 300F is all that is needed for epoxies.

Everyone here has some good advice. You might also try a soldering gun if you have one (Not a soldering pencil) heats up brass real quick. Don't have to worry about burning the wood although with even a minimum of care, you won't scorch it with even a propane torch. I just find the soldering gun gives a little more control than a torch or heat gun. I have a heat gun that will scorch wood easily if I fall asleep at the switch.

My heat gun has high and low and the low setting is great for beeswax and won't scorch the wood.  The high setting definitely will. It's a cheapo from a BBS.
