Scottish cross belt (baldric) for sword with handmade buckle based on a painting of Sir Stuart Threipland of Fingask 1716-1805. Coloured with ferric acetate. Hand rolled threads of Irish linen.

That’s pretty sweet, James! Impeccable work, as always!
Now, where did I put my basket hilt....

Wow! James THAT is Really nice. Did you make the buckle? Would love to see the sword that goes with it. A big ole Basket Hilt I would guess.

Thank you all. Tim. Yes I made that buckle from the painting. I do believe it is destined for a basket hilt.

James: is ferric acetate vinegaroon? How did you apply it without getting it slopped allover the inside leather too? Cool baldric!!

Taylor, yessir... vinegroon. You do have to hold your mouth right to keep that stuff from slopping over. It helps to have the edges burnished hard to prevent seep.

Very nice, now if I could get you to make a scabbard for my basket hilt Scottish Broadsword to go with it, I’d be in business! Beautiful work.
