Nicely done Jerry,  How are you securing your gold? Is that what they call Damacine? I saw a fellow using gold to decorate steel eggs that had a rough sand blasted surface and the gold would bind to the rough surface mechanically. It was 24 crt gold and very thin but looked amazing. Are these for a pistol or fowler?

These parts are for a jaeger rifle. This is Damascene as done for centuries. There are about  5 different ways to hold the gold on. This has about 100 to 200 individual teeth every 1/8" square. and tucked in on the sides. Sand blasting will hold 24K gold but normally only if the steel or iron is heated to about 500° when applied. The Japanese did that some.  Note the gold eyeballs on the dragon. These are about .015 in diameter.

Dave.
The gold is .003 to .0025 if it is any thicker than .004 it is hard to work with. The teeth have to be lower  in height than the gold or they will poke thru when the gold is pressed in and frosted. The gold is so soft it is like cloth. If you hold a peice in your fingers it will droop when annealed. The gold work on the hammer took three days and the top jaw took 4 days engraving and all. This gun will probably be at the CLA next year along with another of mine.
Here is the frizzen in the process. Note the tiny teeth in the lower left section.

Jerry, The lock is looking really classy.  For those interested, this is a fantastic Germanic Lock copied from an original rifle owned by one of my customers. Investment moulds were made with permission of the owner. The lock assembly was much easier than with most parts cast from originals. Due to the excellent preservation of the original lock, the details are extremely sharp as seen from Jerry's photos.

Hi Jerry,
Magnificent!  Although, the craftmanship is incredible, what I really like about your work are the designs.  I tuck them away in my memory (and on my computer) for future inspiration.
