Somerset County, PA?
« on: February 26, 2020, 06:30:15 AM »
This rifle is suspected to be from Somerset County, Pennsylvania. The finial and cross-hatch engraving make me wonder if it was made by Jacob Horner. The troubling thing is the stocks on the Horner rifles I know of have no comb, and this one has a comb. Also, this one has a relatively short single screw lock bolt plate, while other examples are full length with several screws.Who all used this finial, and cross-hatch engraving? This is a percussion full stock with a plain Jane commercial lock.

I posted some photos of this gun , poor quality, on Jan 19th. I never did get back for better photos. Did you buy this rifle or is it still out there ?

Dave, I didn't buy it. I just thought some people here might be able to help identify possible makers. I don't think I joined the forum till sometime after Jan. 20, so I hadn't seen what you posted.
