Neatsfoots "Compound" for shotgun fiber wads?
« on: March 21, 2020, 08:28:09 PM »
Cleaning the other day and found a half gallon of this stuff. Says it has no harmful acids, has a blending oil (used car oil?) Does not say anything about petroleum on the label. Quit using this stuff on my leather years ago.I use pure Neatsfoots for my rifle.Hate to waste it, and thought maybe I could use it on shotgun wads.Suppose it will cause same problems as in a rifle? Thanks.

I have always adhered to the suggestions not to use the Neetsfoot compounds when dealing with guns.

You might get best info from the maker's MSDS on the balance of the "compound".

I suspect mineral oil.

Might be good for lighting fires or a soot lamp.   :P

I doubt mineral oil would cause problems.  The hallowed ballisol is mostly mineral oil.

I have used all kinds of lubes for ML shotgun wads.  The most effective was a dollop of water-less hand cleaner under the wad.  Yes I am sure it kills a bit of the powder but I could not detect a difference vs dry.    It keeps the bore  snottly all day long, no need to clean at all.
