Nessmuk
« on: July 03, 2020, 12:02:13 AM »
I never really liked the Nessmuk knife until I saw a couple made by Josh Wrightsman that knocked my socks off.  So I researched the history of the Nessmuk.  Very interesting, George Washington Sears AKA Nessmuk 1821-1890 was a man of the wilderness...designed the knife and carried a small Cal black powder rifle.  He was like Thoreau on steroids...Look him up. Anyway I decided to forge one up for myself.

Nessmuk stained deer antler handle, forged blade of 1084 carbon steel wide & thin, OAL 10 inches...tippit

Fine looking Nessmuk Jeff!

There is a very fine line between "hobby" and "mental illness."

Looks like a dandy outdoorsman’s knife to me, and a perfect size.

Thanks for all the kind comments. As a note GW Sears AKA Nessmuk wrote a book "Woodcraft and Camping" in 1881 that is still in print from Amazon for $9.  I think you can get it free as an E-book. He was like Henry David Thoreau.

Lovely knife.

Nessmuk is fascinating and here is the audiobook on “Woodcraft”:

It’s nearly as much a philosophy and reflection on modern society and the outdoors as a bushcraft guide. The key messages ring as true, or even more true, today than they did back in the 1880s when the book was published.
