Sad bad news

One of our friends and members has passed away, George Finke.  We all missed him at Dixon's and I found his obit online.

I only met him once at Lewisburg and he seemed like a man that was just enjoying life, a pleasure to have known him.

Middletown, NY

George Finke of Middletown, NY, formerly of Emerson, NJ, died Sunday, July 12, 2009.

George was a retired carpenter of Empire State Carpenter's Union Local #11 of Westchester and Rockland. He was a member of the National Muzzle Loading Rafle Association, and a Naval Veteran.

He is a devoted father to Amy Forseth and her husband, Erik, Brian and Chris finke; dear brother to Karen Mangini and her husband, Alan and Pamela Madia and her husband, Peter; beloved grandfather of Reise Forseth; also survived by his loving aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, July 15, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at William G. Basralian Funeral Home, 559 Kinderkamack Rd., Oradell.

Funeral services will be held 9 a.m. on Thursday, July 16, at the funeral home, then to Saint Phillips R.C. Church Saddle Brook for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. Interment following at George Washington Memorial Park, Paramus.

This is a shock. We were just wondering where he was at Dixon's this year. We commented on the fact that we didn't see any post from him recently ( He posted quite regularly especially this year) His last post was July 11th!
This is very sad news. I know we will miss him.

I had a photo of George & Eric from last years Dixon's show.
George is on the left and Eric A is holding one of George's longrifles.
May he ascend to the Great Halls of the builders that have gone before.
We will miss you.

Ah what sad news... Everyone who knew George was looking for him at the fair.  We expected him to bring his folding chair up the hill to the tent, join us for a while, and tell some good stories.  We'll miss you George.  I was looking for that same photo to post of him, It's a good one.

A terrible loss!

 I haven't spoken to him recently and was wondering where he was hiding.

 I expected he was busy and that I would see him at Dixon's. 

He was a great guy and its a great loss to the gun building fraternity.

We had made plans to share a campfire one evening while at dixons. Didn't hear back from him last week. That's awful news...I was looking forward to it.

Sad news indeed...  I too missed George at Dixon's.  He had an engaging personality, was quick to laugh and I enjoyed meeting him greatly.  How sad...  The picture of him with Eric is exactly how I remembered him, thanks Jim for posting it.  And thanks Bill for letting us know.  We'll miss him.

George's Passing has really been bugging me. We should have seen his face at Dixon's & he was posting right up until the day he died ( his last post was July 11th) like he had all this new work to do and couldn't wait to get started.

Dixon's came & went  but a fellow builder has passed!
I can only wonder if his family knew about his friends here on the ALR.

So folks Please look back to who tried to answer your questions ( usually quickly) Who started some pretty good threads & who asked for advice from time to time... well it was usually "George F" so if you can't remember the face Please remember the screen name.
He was a great guy and a talented builder. He won't be helping us or asking us questions any longer but he will live here with us on this list.
