Starting another one

Going to start working on another long rifle. This one has a 45 caliber B weight 38 inch swamped barrel from Colerain. I think the barrel may be A weight after filing all the rough finish on the barrel. I had piles of shavings on the floor before I got finish smooth on the flats. The wood is a piece I got from Allen Martin and it is going to be beautiful. The ramrod hole and barrel channel plus rough shaping Allen got done for me. I'm going to try and make this one very slim and trim. The lock is going to be a Kibler Ketland which I ordered a while back.
When I started to inlet barrel I want some way to keep inlet black off the wood and off me! I always use a dowel in the muzzle to hold on to but hadn't figured out what to do with breech end. When inletting my eagle on last gun I did I glue a piece of wood to it so I could hold onto it and pull it out of inlet while working on it. On the breech end of barrel I super glued a piece of wood for a handle. Its worked great so far.

Filings from barrel, had three piles like this.

I’ll have to try that. I usually solder a steel bar atop the breech crossways but this looks a lot easier.

A large magnet works well too.
