Granddaughters $60.00 pistol!
« on: May 19, 2020, 12:57:43 AM »
I found this small Silar lock and a 12" barrel crudely inlet into a piece of maple for $35.00 at the local flea market. I bought it for the lock, but when I got home and looked at the bore I decided to cut it down and turn it on the Logan. Bought a new breech plug, lock screws and vent, the rest is made from scrap brass and steel I had laying around. The stock is old growth Walnut cut on the family farm more than 100 years ago. I haven't built a pistol in a long time, and it will be along time if ever I do another. The rest of the grandkids are getting rifles. LOL ;D

flintlock hunter; Sir, good evening. Outstanding work, great size and color is right on. Muzzle treatment is WoW. That work of art would look outstanding on my right side of my desk. Thanks for sharing. AJ.

Thanks Bob, I would like to say it was fun, but that would be untrue. Pistols are just plain hard to build.

Thanks everyone. I can't take credit for the design, it was as close as I could get to a picture I seen of one built by Brad Emig. Hope I spelled that correct. I always try to do something with the muzzle just to be different.

Thanks Taylor, yes its very dense and hard walnut. The story goes that it was cut on the farm in the 1800s to make room for a building, and stored in the rafters till my cousin gave me a piece for this build.

You did a wonderful job on that pistol.

Good looking pistol you built there. I bet that walnut is a hundred times better than what is around now.

Definitely a nice piece of work, all around. I like pistols too, just haven built many compared to long guns. I really like the barrel treatment. Gives me ideas for future projects.
Welcome to the forum too. Lots of good folks here. Enjoy your stay. Best regards, Dave F 8) 8)

That is a pistol I would sure be proud to own.  The lines and finishing really draw the eye.  I too would like to see more of your work.  Though you have few posts, you are no beginner to this rodeo!   :-)   God Bless,   Marc

Thanks again everybody. I just finished up a somewhat close copy of a John Armstrong, my favorite style of gun. I'll try and get a couple pictures put on.

I love a good silk purse made from a sow’s ear story!  Your work was really outstanding on it.  And your granddaughter will cherish that fine gift and family heirloom for years to come.
