CLA Show

Not sure if this is the forum to ask this in, but will the KRA exhibitors be at the CLA show again this year?

Some members of the KRA exhibit some of their original guns at the CLA.  I think the CLA and KRA prefer to stand as 2 different organizations and so I think the exhibits by KRA members at the CLA are not "official" KRA exhibits, etc.  Help me out, exhibitors, if I am mixed up.

It's not as complicated as I make it sound- many members of one or both organizations may also be members of the NMLRA, NRA, etc, but the NMLRA or the NRA wouldn't be involved (endorsing or taking credit) for CLA shows, if you follow that.  Maybe I just muddied things worse.

Many KRA members exhibit things, including guns, or other items, however, they are not held under the strict constraints
of the KRA, which requires them to exhibit only kentucky rifles and the proper accouterments.   For example....last year there was a great exhibit of german Jagers...this would not be proper at the annual KRA show.   So, you culd expect to
see many antiqute items at the CLA show that would not normally be seen at the KRA show........Don

Gentlemen,  The Kentucky Rifle Foundation will have its usual display at the CLA show again this year. The 2009 theme of the display is: THE KENTUCKY RIFLE an AMERICAN FUNCTIONAL ART FORM. The display will feature 8-10 original Kentuckies and several pistols and powder horns that compliment the theme.

See you there,  Henry

The exhibit Henry is talking about is worth far more than the price of admission.   There are some great guns here, I know
you will like it...............Don

Now I am confused.  Last year was my first CLA Show.  I was under the impression that last year the KRA was there for the first time and all of the exhibitors with the antique rifles (over to the right) were members of the KRA.  Sort of two shows in one.  I guess what I'm really asking is will there be a similar representation of antique rifles at the show this year?  Same show format as far as who is there?

GHall,    You are correct that the 2008 CLA show was the first combined show of the CLA/KRA. However, for the last eight years the Kentucky Rifle Foundation has always had a presence of some sort at the request of Gordon. During that time there were also a few other original displays along with the KRF, maybe a total of 3 or 4. In 2007 it was decided to ask the collector group to participate in the 2008 show. You saw the results.

I believe the same plan is in place for this year as well and may even be bigger. Mel Hankla is the Head Master of the program and can provide you with the specifics. See you in a couple weeks.  Henry

Henry,
I took out the strike through, evidently you had accidentally entered a BBC Tag (Bulletin Board Code) for Strikethrough.

Hey Folks, Henry called and ask me to try and clear this up. Yes, the CLA is hosting another "Antique Arms" section at our meeting August 14th & 15th at Heritage Hall, in Lexington, Kentucky. The "Antique" section of the Contemporary Longrifle Association is in no way sponsored by, nor an event of, the Kentucky Rifle Association. The KRA is very strict in their focus's on what is classified as a "Kentucky Rifle" and it's accouterments, with nothing else being allowed at their annual show. Membership in the KRA is by invitation only, and initiated by a sponsoring mentor and a supporting second, both of which must be long term members of the KRA.  At their show a maximum of three contemporary items are allowed on the table and must be signed and dated. And...be a minority of items exhibited.

However, the KRA is a very important sister organization of the CLA and have supported our endeavors with an exhibit at our show for many years. Many KRA members are also CLA members, yet many other KRA members have no interest in contemporary items in the least.

Last year and again this year the Kentucky Rifle Foundation is presenting a fantastic educational exhibit of rare and exquisite original Kentucky rifles. It will be an opportunity for students of the Kentucky rifle  to see important antique American Longrifles that are not commonly brought out in public.

However, the Antique arena at the CLA is much broader in scope than the KRA and includes anything that can be found in a contemporary form being made by our membership. A few of this upcoming years antique exhibits includes: Tom Grinslade"s American Fowler's, Dave Wiesenburgs fantastic swords, I believe the German Jaegers will be back, the Whitley House Historic Site is once again bringing Wm. Whitley's Jacob Young rifle and fantastic powder horn, Tom Patton will be there with the "Free Born" rifle along with his great French musket collection. Jim Routh's powder horn collection will be on exhibit, and Brian LaMaster is bringing his newly discovered, "Boone Rifle". These are just off the top of my head and I know there are others that I'm just not remembering or am not aware.

These antique items are the very roots of what the Contemporary Longrifle Association is all about. Their presents at the show provides an education for contemporary artist that can be achieved in no other way.

Hope to see you in Lexington !

Mel,
I'm glad you came in on this discussion! You did a really god job in explaining the show in all its complexity.

Howdy fellers!
I just booked me a room for next Friday and I'm really looking forward to the show. I just wondered what time the show ends on Friday, officially. I was there last year, but I didn't notice a quitting time.

Henry,

I have some photos from the Tulpehocken Historical Society, Womelsdorf which should interest you.  I tried to send to your email but it was returned.  Is your email still good to go?

Best Regards, Jason

I'll be in the hospital cardiac unit if I win and in the rubber room if I lose. If they let me use my cell phone, I'll get ahold of you all. :o
