Paint type for horning?
« on: August 19, 2020, 03:20:28 PM »
I'm kinda involved in making a sow's ear out of a sow's ear, just to get a feel of working with horns.

Trying to gussy-up an older import horn. I filed some flutes in it above where I paneled the spout. Being all black, It needs some contrast help and I thought about painting the flutes red. What exact type/make/name should I be looking for? And tips for applying too.

Thanks guys.

Got to "Micheal's" or "Hobby Lobby" and pick up some acrylic paint that should do what you want.

Thanks Tim. Neither are local to me. Wasn't expecting acrylic as a suggestion.

Kinda interested in a subdued chalky, oxidized look. Not sure if it is as simple as adding some white sidewalk chalk powder to the paint or not. Any ideas would be appreciated.

You could try Milk Paint, a couple coats sanded between coats and 0000 steelwool after the last. Or give Chalk Paint a try, experiment, ya never know.
