Any thoughts on this little box??

Made out of wood . The top twists around to open. I have a small snuff box collection and got this to go with them.  I assume that is what this is. . I'm thinking early nineteen century out of Germany but am not sure . If any has ideas or comments  I'd appreciate it.   Jim

I don't know, but it actually has an oriental feel to my eyes.  Or perhaps Turkish?  The hat on the rider might tell you more.  Hard to see from the photos.  God Bless,   Marc

I seem to see Doves and hearts (Euro/American motif?), trees, and is that a palm of some sort in the foreground of the rider? Spanish?

On the top there is a rider with a sword on a horse next to a pine tree? There are two birds facing  each other standing over a heart. Doves? Fifteen stars scattered around.  Wood looks like walnut to me but I sure could be wrong.  Thanks everyone.

I'd say European for sure. Southern European maybe. The rider appears to have a helmet with a feather crest. Hearts and doves (often shown erect with swept back wings as shown) are common enough European motifs. Very cool piece.

Bottom piece diameter 3 inches.  Top piece. 3 1/2 inches  .   height 1/2 inch on the outside curve .

Yes the wooden dowel in the center goes all the way . It just barely sticks through.  It looks  to be a round wood piece holding it on the inside.  My fingers are to big to get inside  to get  a good feel of  the pin.

Very cool. It does have an “oriental” feel to it. An expression in 18th century sense meant “ anything not Western European.  Hashish or opium holder?
