Two Part Screw Tip

  This horn is not after any particular horn, it is about 13 1/2" around the outside curve and 11 1/2 tip-to-tip. The butt is Walnut, hollowed out about 3/4s its length, held in by four iron pins. The tip is horn threaded to the antler collar 5/8-11, the collar is attached to the horn with the same. There is a slight flare at the neck where it meets the collar. All colored with the same Brown dye and Brown shoe polish.

I like it.   I have never tried threading antler.    Are there any tips I should know about?

 Mark, to begin with the horn has to be pretty solid or the area of pith about the same size as your bit or smaller. Same tools as horn, I do back out and clean after about every turn, Dr. Jackson's Hide Rejuvenator, lots of it as a lube.
Here are a couple of candidates both are about 1 1/8" and will work well with a 5/8s tap. The smaller one is right at 3/4s"
it is threaded all the way through.Not much to work with but somewhere along the line it will get used.

PS: Somebody told me they use CA glue on the threads once they are cut. Haven't tried that, I would think the glue would make the threading brittle. TC
