Left Hand Mule Ear Rifle Build
« on: September 08, 2020, 11:22:33 PM »
Here is a build I just completed.  It has a left hand mule ear that was built by an unknown person.  I found the lock and it came to me from Texas.  It has a quarter cock, half cock and full cock and is as well built as you could ask for.  The stock profile is supposed to be somewhat close to a Verner.  The barrel is a .45 caliber 13/16" Colerain @ 37" long.  It has a single trigger that I modified from a Brown Bess trigger and the sear moves to the rear requiring that I pin it high in the panel.  I did build a custom trigger wear plate from brass.  The wood is Grade #4 from Pecatonica and was finished with three coats of TOW Original Oil, two coats of Chambers Finish and one application of Bri Wax.

Thanks again.  Wolf, I once had a real good shooter tell me that all us right hand shooters should be shooting a lefty rifle.  He did and swore it was less of a intrusion into his sight picture.  I found while building this rifle that it was very comfortable and natural to operate the lock.  It allowed me to keep the stock in my right hand and do everything else with the left.  Felt good.
