Picked up a new to me rifle.
« on: February 05, 2021, 03:46:08 AM »
Well I picked her up tonight. Gr Douglas barrel, RE Davis lock and triggers. 45 cal and very well balanced and thin. Barrel is smooth and still has great rifling. No builder Name. Owner stated he thought it was an older Gary Ford. No proof though. And not sure of what schoo this rifle represents.. Can't wait to get to the Range.

I love the sunburst inlays along the forestock. Great barrel and I’m a fan of Douglas barrels. Just check for runout but most should easily correct with sight adjustment and if that fails, a little judicious bending of the barrel.

Thanks. Barrel looks and feels very clean. Its an older gun but cleaned up nice. When this cold snap goes away, I'll be out to the range to check accuracy. Can anyone tell me what style this rifle is? Trigger guard seems different for a Pennsylvania style.

That trigger guard reminds me a lot of a Thompson Center Hawken.

Take the trigger guard off and the sideplate, and the stock profile is similar to SOMERSET County , Pa.
It’s a very nice rifle , but with a little change of the trigger guard would sure add to is looks. The side plate could be left as is because of the inlet. The guard would be an easy fix. IMHO

Regardless who built it the rifle is certainly quite nice.

Thanks for the replys. I may look into changing the trigger guard, but not sure if I have the skills and finding another that matches up may be hard it seems. As the part you still the gold through will probably be different spacing.

Doing a little research it appears the later somerset county rifles had a soured trigger gaurd. Maybe this is what the builder had in mind.
