Finished Lehigh Valley Barn Gun

I just finished this little Barn Gun for Old George, just the way he wanted it. Plain, simple and unadorned, but he did want a butt plate and washer for the lock bolt. The trigger guard is like ones I have made on previous Barn guns, bent and hammered steel. Although I have used brass and copper on others. The front of the bow hooks under the trigger plate to hold it in place, then two small screws in the rear return.
Barrel is a fine Rice Premium swamper in .45 cal x 42" lg. B wt. but the middle dimensions match an A wt. barrel. Lock is a Late Ketland assembled by Dennis Priddy from castings. It is strong fast and sparky. They should be outlawed in California! Stock wood is from a curly ash blank I got from another Michigander, Dick Miller. This wood is extremely hard and heavier than maple. It weighs 8 lbs.
The bag is by John Dyer (retired) map horn and patch knife by me. Enjoy looking!

LOL - I thouht that, due to the growth-ring structure, looking just like the ash bow I made many years ago.
So - SPLENDID "piece of ash".

Thanks guys, the color is from A/F and L. Mt. nut brown stain, then two of the finish coats were tinted with crimson artists oil paint. George wanted it "dark and red". He picked it up yesterday and said I nailed it, just right!

This is my 2nd weapon from the hands of Tom and I've been very pleased with his work. We.ve spent enough time togather that I not only consider him my "riflesmith" but a friend as well. Thanks again Tom.
