Patent Breech plug making thread
« on: October 13, 2020, 07:15:56 AM »
Somebody posted on how he made one of these recently.  I can not find it.

I want to make one like the photo.  Not necessarily exact, but not one that is obviously modern machine work.  I have the side view but no top view.  I need to form a plan of attack on how I proceed but without an example  I am a bit lost.

Thanks,
Scot

I think it was Rolf who you are thinking of.  Made one back in June - https://americanlongrifles.org/forum/index.php?topic=60864.msg609789#msg609789

Back in the "day"I made some when I helped Bill Large and still have one I
made in my own shop.It involved a piece of 8620,a lathe and a milling machine
and some filing. The one Curtis modified for his Alex Henry project is a fine casting
that he had to reseat due to what was an apparent error in installation.I made a
smaller version of this AH breech for a boys rifle that was stolen from my shop back
in 2008.One thing about making your own plugs is the likely chance of an internal
flaw is about zero.
