Horn W/Three Bands
« on: November 02, 2020, 05:00:17 PM »
This one is about 14 3/4" around the outside curve and 12 tip-to-tip. The Walnut butt is about 2 1/2", it is held in by 4 iron pins. The two part tip is horn as is the collar, both are threaded but it was done as an easy way to connect all three rather than being a true screw-tip. The bands were heated and tapped in place then secured with 3 iron pins each.
The finish is "Buttermilk" milk paint and Brown shoe polish then brushed.

The simplicity of this horn is what it sets it apart. I absolutely love this horn!

Thanks for sharing.   I have a lot of short horn pieces that I am going to have to start putting together to form a tip.   Nice to see what you have done.

Thanks. Mark take a look in Dr. Hopkin's book at the "Two Piece Tip" chapter, it will give you some good ideas.

Your finish using the milk paint/shoe polish is super!
