Archeological recovered breechplugs

These are some recovered from excavations  at Fort Quiatinon near Lafayette Indiana.  The site has yielded a plethora  of gun parts and related  items.  The fort had a long life as far as frontier  forts went.
Take special notice of the plug with only two or so threads.....

Interesting.... You can really see the grain in the iron. Did you soak them in something to get the rust off?

Regarding the plugs with only 2 or 3 threads ;  maybe that is why they are detached from the barrel ?  ;D   Usually plugs were made for a barrel and then installed .  Seeing so many separate from barrels makes me wonder why ?   Where these  scrapped , ie the result of the plugs being replaced ?
