Getz Barrel - Don Getz Era ID

I don’t know a tremendous amount about Getz Barrels, other than they had a solid reputation. I have heard Don’s era NOS stuff can bring a little bit of a premium over “post Don” era. Not sure if that is totally true, but so I’ve heard. I recently came across a Getz “Dickert” for a future project. Haven’t examined it yet. Is there a reliable way to tell by markings or numbers if it was made when Don ran the operation? Thanks.

Roger that. Thanks Mitch! A world of info here. This one turned out to be in the low 20Ks, so post Don’s Production, per your info. But still a worthy barrel, I’m thinking. What year did Don stop his personal Getz barrel producing?

I believe the transition started in 02 but Don was involved and around the shop until he passed so there is no hard transition date.

Yes, Don was around there a lot. I talked to him many times there at the shop after he supposedly 'retired,' and I don't mean when John was pretending to be Don on the phone to screen calls...

I have seen no let up in the quality of the barrels that John has produced since his dad passed. True he has been hard to contact and for awhile he stopped production due to health issues or whatever, but he still made one of the BEST barrels out there. I will continue to use his barrels when I can get them.
Maybe I am wrong because I am not as close to the source as some of you guys in Pa.

The only issues I have ever had re Getz barrels , is their availability or rather lack there of .
They have always been top notch IMO

I have a Don Getz barrel and a Jon Getz barrel. I finished and shot the 54 caliber Jon Getz copy of the brass-barreled rifle barrel and it is a super barrel. Just finished the 28 inch swamped Don Getz barrel on a rifle for the Grandkids and expect it will perform just as well. Both barrels are exceptionally well made.
