CVA pa long rifle kit help
« on: December 13, 2020, 05:39:39 PM »
Hello, I have been given an old CVA long rifle kit that was never put together since received back in the 70’s. I was looking for someone to assemble all the parts (I have them all) an complete the rifle after 50 years. Can anybody give me a name or phone number of a builder to help me out??? Thanks??? Sonny

These kits are very easy  to put together, you could do it, just drop everything in place and tighten the screws and it should be shootable. A little bluing and wood finishing and you will be good to go.

Perhaps one of your friends has assembled a similar kit in the past and could steer you in the right direction.

Lots of videos on youtube about this assembly, here is a traditions which is much the same as your CVA.There are several videos in this series.

As Eric said, with a minimum of tools and not too much time invested, I'm sure you can do it yourself, but if you're truly uncomfortable doing so and need or want some help or to completely commission someone to do it, you should probably mention what part of the world/country you're in.   I guess you could ship it most anywhere but then you're also in for shipping charges both ways.

I'm in northcentral PA and could probably do it at some point, but my shop is unheated and I don't work out there often.  Besides that, I have several other projects already on the bench or in the pipeline.  You'll find someone who's better than me anyway.  ;)

Sonny you can do it. Its funny I've been cleaning up the Basement for a Kibler build and found a CVA rifle that an old friend gave me like 6-7 years ago. It was in BAD shape. No wood was ever removed and the Brass was still in sand-cast state.I wish I had taken a pic of it before I started. This gun looks to never had been fired. Good starter rifle for someone. I'm in Hamilton, NJ

The guy in the video says to use a Dremel tool, very bad idea, this is the quickest way to screw up any gun kit unless you are very experienced with a Dremel and have used one extensively in the past.

the wood stock does not carve well so I put inlays and a great color (I believe these are birch stocks and they chip badly when trying to carve)

this kit has a 1-66 barrel this is 4 shots at 25yrds(crappy trigger) but shoots 2 in same hole

That's odd. It shows up as being sent. No matter. This is it:

I live in southern Monroe county, not real close, but if you don't get any better offers I could probably help you out.

Could you give me a few details on the kit? Flint of percussion? Caliber? Half-stock Hawken type or full stock with the brass plate separating the halves?

Are you looking to have anything done special, or just assemble and finish the kit?

Thanks

Dale H

I see WKevinD also sent you a PM. According to his profile he is from Susquehanna County, which may be closer to you. I used to get in some good deer hunting in Susquehanna County near Lord Pond, a few miles west of Hop Bottom.

These old kits make a reasonable 20mph Leman trade rifle, with little more than a Leman style capbox, a bit of distressing of metal, and wood finishes, and a rawhide dog chew wrapped around the stock splice, oh, and tack it as much as you want. I built one this way, and my club used it for a canoe shoot, and I took it to rendezvous that offered a survival run, so I didn’t have to worry about an expensive custom gun. They’re good for kids, and pilgrims too.

I was given mine by my son (with my wife's ??? input telling him I wanted to build a rifle) they meant well, so I was guilted into the build(I wanted a cabin creek kit/had to start some place) SOoo I built it for my grandsons and they like red ;) doesn't shoot badly and the  lock surprised me very reliable
