Another Screw Tip W/Band
« on: January 08, 2021, 11:10:25 PM »
Not following any existing horn here just coming together as it was worked. It is about 13" around the outside curve, 3 1/3 of that being tip and collar, 10 tip-to-tip. The butt is Walnut, hollowed out a bit, drilled and tapped 1/2-8, the finial is also Walnut. The hole and finial are tapered to form a bit of a funnel. It is held by 3 iron pins, then the band was attached with 3 more that also go into the butt. The tip and collar are horn and threaded 5/8-11. More of a "construction" feature than anything else. It was scrapped, dyed and rubbed down with shoe polish.

Okay, that is some beautiful turning work.  I really like the scalloped style turning on the tip.  The base is extra fancy, and the turn-out finial for filling is an impressive "extra" as always.  Well done Tim.  That horn has beauty without lots of obvious bling.  God Bless,   Marc

Tim, I  love that beehive plug on this one, and the screw-in finial makes it extra neat!

This horn has grown on me.   Initially, I didn't care for it, but the more I looked at it, the more I appreciated its design and the skill in turning.   The symmetry between the tip and the plug is particularly appreciated as is how thin you got the tip around the edge of the threads.   I realize that is why you needed the collar.   Then there is the thin base band reflecting the deep groove in the base plug followed by those large beads.   Those are wonderfully executed beads, not to mention the filler plug in the base plug.   The very clean threads on the filler plug are an accomplishment in themselves.   All in all a very nice horn that gets better the more I look at it.
