I am interested in purchasing a rifle that has a Pete Allan Round-Faced English lock on it. I understand that Mr. Allan is up in age and no longer making locks from research I have conducted. I have a shooting tip book written in the early 1970s where he contributed to a couple of chapters. With that being said, I had some questions:
1. Were any of the internals for these locks made by other manufacturers where parts are commonly available?
2. Has anyone broken a major part such as a mainspring on a Pete Allan lock and how did you go about fixing it since there are few parts available for these locks?
Any insight would be helpful. I understand Muzzleloader Building Supply has maybe a handful of parts for Pete Allan locks available. None are for this particular lock from what I have seen. I've tried to research as much as I can about Pete Allan locks and there isn't much information. I have one on a smoothbore built by Tip Curtis and it hasn't given me problems. But, before I make another major purchase, I like to learn what I can. I'm still "wet behind the ears" in this hobby. Thanks in advance.
