New-to-me fowler scores a doe tonight
« on: December 29, 2020, 06:27:23 AM »
I almost bought this fowler at Dixon's fair a couple of years back. The person who did buy it let me know when it came up for sale and I jumped on it.

It shoots round balls pretty well, and tonight it drilled a big ol' round ball into this nice doe at about 50 yards.

Now to get a turkey with it this spring...

Nice shooting. It’s sure nice when a gun you like does the job like that.

Thanks, all.

That is my first venture into a smoothbore, and I've been very pleased with it.

Now to get a turkey with it in the spring...

You did pretty well for a first time fowler deer hunter. Congratulations. But I think I'll stick with my rifles.

It was nice chatting about your kill and the gun you used.  When I first saw the photo, I told my wife that the gun looked familiar.   The gun was originally built for one of  (rdf) who post on this board.  He had a very nice Don Getz 16 ga. barrel.  The gun was built as a copy of an original Bucks Co. bloom fowler/musket.  The original was built with a steel ramrod.  The original Bloom gun also had carvings of the Indian princess /Liberty cap at the front of the lock panels much like the Antes swivel rifle.  It was a nice fowler and made with quality parts, i hope you have much success with it in the future.  It is always nice to follow your work and see it put to the use it was designed for.  Ron
