  is there a way to measure the strengh of the main spring? just wondering.

When the spring is installed in the lock, you could put a trigger pull or spring scale's hook on the cock, and pull it to cock, then see how many pounds to pull were required, I suppose.  But as long as it is strong, it's actual weight doesn't really matter.

Taylor's message above is spot on. If you "NEED" to know the actual spring force you would have to make a fixture that would eliminate all outside friction - a dauting task indeed.
