Taylor and I tried again, this time it was snowing quite hard.
.69 - .675" and .662" balls - yeah - both used.
.021" denim 'spit" patches were with .675's and screwed up with same but different lubed .021" denim patch
and 3 of the .662" balls on the middle target. LOL
Switched to .034" denim patches for the last target using the smaller .662" balls - did a little better.
85gr. GOEX 2F used for all but first shot on the middle target - double charged that one accidentally
 - interruptions, ya know - 170gr. -  it kicked a bit but was a 5 at 9 o'clock. Kinda threw some after that. LOL- or was just me.
looks like a solid 46 to me.

I plan to shoot my smoothbore targets tomorrow. Last day !    Hopefully we won't get the wet snow and wind we got today .  The smoothbore shooting should be easier on my fingers , since I'll be using paper cartridges and keeping my mittens on  :)

Went out on Friday afternoon again with my smooth bore. I shot the diamond target first and got the same score as I did on the one I posted before. Then I shot the square target which I thought I could improve on after tuning my a lock a bit more.
I was shooting at the creek bottom and I like shooting there as there are few distractions. The only drawback is there is no canopy and mirage at the end of the barrel can be challenging.
I was able to better my score on this target by two points  to a 17 since I managed one ball inside the black. However I was very happy with my group. The one ball that was out of the group was my fourth shot, which I ws trying to get to go lower. It went lower but went wide to the left. My last shot went back into the group. I guess this raises my total to 48.
I put the gun away and got my 54 Hawken out. Got everything ready loaded the gun  and when I went to cap I discovered I had # 10 caps in the capper. I will try again this afternoon hopefully the wind will lay down from what it was yesterday.

I have scored the new submissions and declare the following:  Oil Derek- 48/70 for rifle, alacran - increased his smoothbore target to 48/70, Daryl's rifle target score - 52.  For clarity, Daryl is sponsoring the smoothbore part of this match, and I, the rifle part.  So Daryl has final word on Smoothbore, and I on Rifle.  Neither of us will compete in the matches we score.

Nice group, alacran.  I always seem to get a(or more) flyer(s) that I cannot justify it's/their location.
I concur for a 48/70 in smoothbore for you.
At this time, Taylor is in the lead with a 58/70 smoothbore.

I did get out this afternoon.  Plus 3 C. and a light rain.  I should have changed out my flint, but ...well that's just how it goes.  I pulled the last shot, after 3 "  Klaches"  :(
20 bore, with .600 balls in cartridges.

The photos kind of sucked, so I'm re posting them

Thanks Oil Derek.  Smoothbores are my main hunting guns.  BTW, I did change out the flint for the 4 shot tie breaker target.  I'm using up some musket flints from when I had a Brown Bess.  Clamped in the jaws sideways seems to work pretty well  :)

Good shooting indeed, Alacran. glad you got to shoot the course, Rich.
Bob - looks like you dropped 6 points, maybe 8? - for a 62/64/70 YIKES = smoothbore!!!!
Unless Justin can post a better score, the sun is going down here - nice red sunset, but North of here
where Justin lives, he likely has another hour of light to post a smoothbore picture. Guess we'll have to wait.
I uploaded Bob's targets for a close look and I'm scoring them a 64/70. Imagine,  (Bobinthewoods)64/70 for smoothbore and (Justin)66/70 for rifle.

Bobinthewoods wins the smoothbore event with a 64/70 Wooohooo. Well done, Bob.
I'll get your prize off to you - LOL - just remembered I forgot to give Taylor his prize from January.
My thanks to Taylor and Alacran for competing with their smoothbores.

Thank you very much Daryl. A big thanks to everyone who took part in this match.  I thought that perhaps Taylor would be the winner in the smoothbore category , as he shoots that 20 bore of his extremely well  :)    Thankfully the targets were a nice size and lady luck smiled on me .  At 25 yards this gun is extremely accurate.  At 35 yards, the patterns open up but it's still a 3 in grouping gun . After 50 yards...not so much !
I guess I'll have to look at a smoothbore target for March .

Great shooting Bob. I'm still waiting on a lock to finish building my smoothbore. I just borrow the wife's from time to time.

I was in a rush to post my targets before the sun went down in BC.  I got to look at the other entries just now and I would be afraid to be any kind of critter in Bob's woods. That is some fine shooting.
Justin I'm glad they won't let you across the border. I have enough young wipper snappers to compete against down here.
I have enjoyed playing with my smoothbore and see a lot of potential with it.
Great shooting guys.

Am I too late:  I shot this target with Daryl the other day, and am just getting to posting it now.  I don't qualify for the Rifle competition anyway, but I'll post these just because I shot them and we're allowed two entries.
I used my S. Hawken look-alike:  62/ cal. .613" pure lead ball, .021" denim 10 oz. cotton patch, moose milk lube, 63 gr. FFg GOEX, #11 CCI caps.  I scored another 62.  (The old grey @$#% ain't what he used to be).  Congrats to Bob and Justin for some excellent shooting.  and Thanks to all who gave it a whorl.  See you in March!!
