A Few Small Flat Banded Horns

The largest is 6 3/4 X 5/8ths ", add the stopper and plug and it goes to 8 1/2. It has a leather patch and the butt is tapped 1-8 for the plug, which is Walnut. It is held in by 6 iron pins, the others have 4 holding the butt, all make of Pine. The tip is Whitetail antler as are the other three, all held in place by 3 iron pins. The bands were heated and pressed on, they are held in place by a couple pins each. Color is a light Brown dye with shoe polish.
The smallest is 5" without the stopper and 6 with, they are all about 5/8th" thick.

Those represent a lot of work. One of these days I am going to have to make a press and try a flattened horn.

Great looking work. I really like flat horns myself. Like Mark, making a couple is on my "to do" list someday.

Sweet! I like them all. The one with the screw out base plug looks really useful.

WOW Tim... I see another labor of love here. Those are down right nice. YEP, the one with the filling screw in the butt end and the leather patch is my favorite also.

Thanks guys...looks like I should have file through all of them. Actually the patch is covering a hole/crack, that happened when I pressed it.

They, the bands are fitted while the horn is round, once flatted and final shaped they are heated and pressed on. They take the shape of the flatted horn well when hot.
