Anyone recognize this lock?
« on: March 15, 2021, 01:28:21 AM »
Picked this up at Dixon's this afternoon for a good price. First glance I thought it was a Davis Jaeger lock, but the castings are different in places but it is about the same size. The frizzen overhangs the pan on the barrel side and seems to be too soft to spark so I am assuming it might have been a kit. Any thoughts.

It's got a "Hawken Shop" stamp on the inside of the plate...??  Sure looks like Davis' Jaeger lock though.

It's one of the variations of the Davis lock that Track of the Wolf sold for their French Fusil kits.  It's the same, just cosmetically different.  I used one of them many years ago to make this lock:

The only difference I see between this and the Davis jaeger is that the lockplate does not have a ledged bevel of the Davis jaeger lock first edition and the frizzen spring is a little different. Internals, cock, frizzen all seem unchanged. I used the RE Davis once and had to harden the frizzen. After that it was a sizzler and fairly fast for a slightly long throw lock.

Just looked, they still sell the "Type C" and "Type D" fusil locks.

Thanks for the info. I will have to do some work on it, but seems like a good lock.
