March Covid Smoothbore match
« on: March 01, 2021, 06:24:02 PM »
Thinking this over, I propose using the exact same format as the Feb match ie the same same targets.

They really were great to work with, and it gives a chance for smoothbore shooters who participated in the Feb match to really tune in their guns/ loads without dealing with too many variables.

I'm putting up this CLA DVD as a prize to the winner.  Hopefully we'll have a few more shooters since the weather seems to be improving  :)

Count me in. Like the idea of using those same targets they were fun.

Scares me. Those 4 little circles! Now what if I’m aiming at circle 1 and bullseye circle 2? ;D

Sounds good. I need to print some more targets.  Got some balls for the .50 cast & might cast some more today.

Wonderful, I like those targets and need to keep tuning my mind around the smooth bore. Hopefully the weather will be better this month.
By the way Bob you set a high bar.  You showed us all what can be accomplished with a smoothbore ay 25 yards. Thank you.

The wind was under 10 mph yesterday afternoon. I went out with the smooth bore since it is what I need the most work on.
All targets were shot with 70 grains of 2f Goex, .600 ball and #40 Jo Ann's cotton drill.
I was using 70 grains because I forgot my adjustable powder measure. I always have a 70 grain measure attached to my bag.
I wasn't shooting at the range, since it is closed on Wednesday.
I think this gun shoots better with 80 grains since I have been getting better groups with it at the same venue.
I only shot three targets. When I grabbed the bag to go and checked for patch material I thought I might be low. I shot the last five shots with patches I shot on the first 9 shots.
First target I scored a 21, second target I scored a 15, third target I scored a 16, for a total of 52. Of course the scoring is up to Bob.
Next three days are supposed to be very windy. If we get another reasonable day I will go to the same place and shoot these again with 80 grains and see if I get better groups. It could well be that I just don't do the square targets well since my eyes are round.

Good shooting, alacran.  I've been wanting to try the smoothbore out again, but am still waiting for my new feather spring.
I had almost forgotten about this match.

Thanks Bob. I took time to make more patch material today. Hopefully I can get out in the next few days.

Meant to post this yesterday but I forgot to. Any way Sunday was a very nice day and shot all the SB targets again. I was only able to improve my score with only one of the targets. that is the one I'm posting. It scores a 23. I was able to match the score I had on the diamond target but shot worse on the four circles. So all in all I improved my score by two points.

Here we are 30th March. 1 more day. Your first entry, appears either 52 or 49 depending on Bob's call on the top right round target - either a 3 or 0 is the winner so far.
Still no feather spring in sight. :(

More great shooting Alacran.   Aren't smoothbores fun ? !!  I score your targets as 23, 15 and 16 respectively, so your total at this time is 54    .   One day left  :)

And the winner is ....Alacran !  Seriously, despite the limited number of submissions, you deserve it.
That was some very good smoothbore shooting.   :)
