Small/miniature/toy axes seem to have been a real thing back in the day.  I understand that there are folks with collections of them.  Their purpose, I don't know.  I saw 3 that were found together in the Apalachicola River (north FL).  Two had the bits broken out and the 3rd was complete.  I had Tim Ridge make me a copy of it even though I can't imagine what their purpose was. The one you made is really nice.

That's an amazing bit of work Robert.  I am guessing it could stand in for a hatchet in some situations.  Perhaps use it for joints when dressing a hog?   You did a fine job shaping that one, and that hickory handle with the curl was a fine choice.  I think I might have seen some curly hickory around your place at some point.   :-)   God Bless,   Marc

Thank y’all and that’s interesting I’ll have to do some looking around for other original miniature axes. I believe I just might know what hammer you are talking about Papa. Haha. And it should work dressing hogs and other game, as well as splitting small kindling.
