Rice 48” Barrels
« on: April 18, 2021, 04:56:08 PM »
Hi all,

Does anybody know if Rice still produces these? If so, anybody use them? Any thoughts would be appreciated!

Have a great day,
Allen

I’ve used at least a dozen Rice barrels. Don’t see any reason to use anything else. Great quality, no break in, great finish.
As far as I know, they can and do make up to a 48” barrel.
Call Jason, and he can tell you for sure.

Give em a call they have more than what's listed on the website. I ordered a 48" barrel last week that was  in stock.

I have one sitting in the corner, so yeah, as far as I know they still make them.  As far as using my 48 incher, I have engaged a renown maker we all know to build me a Lehigh Schimmel with it.  My barrel is a Rice Golden Age “C” weight, swamped, .50 caliber smoothbore.

We can make the mistake of thinking companies like Rice are big and can keep up with orders and afford to keep big inventory. Best way to get a barrel quickly is to contact them and ask “what do you have in stock or planned soon that’s like this?”  Often there’s something that’s close on hand or planned to be done soon. Then you can decide to take what’s on hand or wait as long as it takes.

I obtained 48” Southern Classic 50 caliber barrel from Rice at the Fall Frolic. Dave Keck is inletting it into a walnut blank for my John Bull rifle project.

I purchased one of the Rice 48 inch barrels a while back and had it in a couple weeks.  I haven't got it built up, but it looks nice.  Jason is good to work with and I use him on all my builds unless the customer specifies something else.  The ones I have used over the years shot great and there was less work to do on the outside than others I have used over the years.

I used the golden age 48” b weight on my Lehigh, and I love it.

I have two radius groove Rice barrels and consider them to be as good as they get.  Neither is 48" but they are fine!
