Thanks everyone for the help.
The top picture is off Jim Kibler's website. I used it for a guide make mine. I made may latch from a large allen wrench that came with something long ago. It is good steel and heat treated to a spring elasticity. The metal is from the hardware store. The fake old finish is cut and try with the stuff around the shop.

Driving a giant nail into a $1200 rifle was uncomfortable. I did it three times on scrap wood to be shure I'd get the step drilled hole right. I don't think it is my favorite release. It is right for this rifle though.

I make mine from a cut nail with high carbon content. I bend the nail into an L shape that allows me to screw it down to the bottom of the box. This gives a longer spring arm and you can do some adjusting
